- Grace Knox leads LSU women's basketball in blowout win over UTA
BATON ROUGE – Kim Mulkey has said during LSU women's basketball nonconference slate that she's not married yet to a starting five.
Against Texas-Arlington inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center Sunday, Mulkey enacted her fifth different starting lineup, going with her biggest combination to date with both sophomore Kate Koval and center Amiya Joyner opening the game on the floor together.
While UTA has some size – one of the bigger teams No. 5 LSU has faced in the first couple of months this season – the big lineup worked well. The ball found its way inside to both Joyner and Koval early and often, and LSU quickly built a big lead.

The Tigers cruised to a 110-45 victory.
Defense led the way for LSU (13-0) as it limited the Lady Mavs (6-6) to just 24% shooting in the first half. Behind freshman forward Grace Knox, LSU went up by 40 points halfway through the third quarter. For the game, UTA mustered a 23% field goal percentage along with 34 turnovers.
Knox put up a career-high 25 points along with 11 rebounds for her second career double-double as she continues to get better and develop ahead of the Tigers opening Southeastern Conference play in January. The freshman forward led all scorers.
Joyner recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Star guard MiLaysia Fulwiley scored 23 points.
Seven LSU players scored at least seven points, including point guard Jada Richard with a season-high 10 and star Flau'jae Johnson with 14.
LSU has one more nonconference game against Alabama State on Dec. 28 at home before SEC play begins against Kentucky Jan. 1.
How LSU has rebounded the ball today should be a comforting sign to Kim Mulkey as SEC play looms around the corner.
The whole roster has crashed the boards well and converted more times than not. The guards have combined for 26 and the bigs have 25 boards.
Knox's 18 points so far are a career high for the freshman. She's done it all today, from scoring, to blocking shots, rebounds the ball, playing sound defense. She's ready for SEC play.
Senior center Amiya Joyner surpassed 1,000 career rebounds during this game against Texas-Arlington.
LSU bigs are showing out today.
Seven LSU players have scored at least 5 points so far today. As a team, the Tigers are shooting 50%.
LSU's shot selection has been really good today. Plenty of high-percentage chances and they've converted half of the time.
LSU's freshman forward is making her imprint on this game in the early going. She's already got 10 points along with four boards.
She's been active on the defensive end and LSU has really benefitted from her play so far today.
END 1 | No. 5 LSU 27, Texas-Arlington 10
Tigers forced eight turnovers in that opening quarter, which they scored 7 points off. But LSU just put the clamps down on the Lady Mavs, as they made one of their last 11 shots to end the period.
UTA is shooting 19% from the field.
