The Chicago Cubs defeated the Cincinnati Reds by a final score of 5-4 on Tuesday night. Veteran Michael Conforto came through with a clutch walk-off home run to give Chicago the win. The Cubs and Reds played a competitive game , but Conforto stole the show with his first home run of the 2026 season. The victory represented Chicago’s 12th consecutive win at Wrigley Field, which is their longest mark since their 14-game win streak in 2008 according to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com.
Conforto agreed to a contract with the Cubs before the season. The 33-year-old has appeared in 18 contests in 2026 and is hitting .323/.436/.548 across 31 at-bats. He is being primarily used in a depth role, but Conforto is clearly making an impact when given an opportunity.
It has been a quality bounce back performance so far for Conforto after his forgettable ’25 campaign that saw him hit .199/.305/.333 with the Los Angeles Dodgers . He is a veteran who has found success in the past, and he is still capable of playing an impactful role for a good baseball team.
Chicago improved to 23-12 with the win. The victory also increased the Cubs’ National League Central lead to two games. Cincinnati is now three games back of first place and in third place while the St. Louis Cardinals are two games back and in second place in the division.
Monday night’s matchup was the first contest of a four-game series between the Reds and Cubs at Wrigley Field in Chicago. First pitch for the second game on Tuesday is scheduled for 7:40 PM EST.
