A former star of the Pittsburgh Steelers likes what he's seen from new head coach Mike McCarthy.
New Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy has some big shoes to fill following the retirement of Mike Tomlin . However, former Steelers cornerback Joe Haden is very impressed with what he's seen from McCarthy so far.
"Every time I hear Mike McCarthy talk, he's talking ball, he's talking fundamentals, he's talking facts, he's talking real ball stuff. I love every time I hear him talk," Haden said on the Deebo & Joe podcast .
That's certainly good to hear as there has been a lot of debate about the presence of McCarthy in the Steelers locker room following the departure of Tomlin.
McCarthy became the oldest head coach the Steelers have ever hired at 62 this offseason, but it seems new and former players have already grown to like and respect him.
He's certainly bringing a ton of experience to Pittsburgh, having served as the Dallas Cowboys head coach from 2020-24 and Green Bay Packers head coach from 2006-18.

However, the only thing that will matter at the end of the day is if McCarthy can continue the Steelers' winning ways. Tomlin is leaving after 19 straight non-losing seasons — an act that will be very difficult to follow.
Luckily, McCarthy has a lot of experience winning, too, with a 174-112-2 career record and .608 winning percentage. He also led the Packers to defeat Tomlin's Steelers in Super Bowl XLV.
The question will be whether he can help Pittsburgh finally end its postseason win drought. Like Tomlin, McCarthy has struggled to find success in the postseason as of late, going 1-3 in the playoffs with the Cowboys.
