NBA rumors: Why Cavs, Heat are in own LeBron James free agency 'category,' per Brian Windhorst appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The NBA world is currently waiting to see where free agent star forward LeBron James will take his talents next. James has already informed the Los Angeles Lakers that he will not be returning next year, and many view his former teams, the Cleveland Cavs and Miami Heat , as potential landing spots for the future Hall of Famer.
Recently, ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst dumped more fuel on that fire with his latest reporting.
""One other thing I think is going to come down here that LeBron will have to decide is how much he cares about what people will think if he goes to a team he's never played for before. Basically if he chooses somebody besides Cleveland or Miami. Cleveland or Miami, it's a very clean decision. It makes sense," said Windhorst, per Yahoo Sports, via Heat Central on X, formerly Twitter. "I think Cleveland and Miami are in their own category. To this day he repeats Miami Heat Mantras. When I watch him play and hear him talk, you feel the Miami Heat part of his basketball DNA."

Heat Culture has indeed become a real thing in NBA circles, although it had turned more into a joke than a legit basketball argument, with Miami losing in embarrassing fashion in each of the last two postseasons. However, Miami is hoping that their recent acquisition of Giannis Antetokounmpo will be enough to convince James to spend a second stint with the franchise.
The Cavs, meanwhile, just made their first conference finals since James left town, and he could be the missing piece on the wing to get Cleveland over the hump and into legit title contention.
At this point, there's no word on when James might make a decision.
