The NHL Department of Player Safety has made its decision regarding Nikita Zadorov .
The Bruins defenseman was fined $5,000 , the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement, for his cross-check on Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin late in Boston ’s Game 4 loss on Sunday afternoon.
The play happened with 3:17 left in the game and the Bruins down 6-0. Zadorov cross-checked Dahlin near center ice then swung at him.

Zadorov was assessed a 5-minute major and a game misconduct in the ugly 6-1 loss that put the Sabres up 3-1 in the first-round series .
Sabres coach Lindy Ruff, who coached Zadorov early in his NHL career, discussed the incident after the game.
“I understand the emotion of that because of the way the game went,” Ruff said. “You see that in playoff games. That type of raw emotion is because a player is so frustrated. ... It’s not a play you want. I’m pretty sure if that’s regular season, it might have been a suspension. He could easily have broke Ras’ arm with a cross check.”
Zadorov, whose status for a must-win Game 5 is uncertain , has 37 penalty minutes through four playoff games. He led the NHL with 152 minutes in the regular season.
