Jeremiah Jackson has been on a tear for the Baltimore Orioles to start his 2026 campaign. However, fellow infielder Jackson Holliday is soon set to make his return from injury.
Still, the Orioles want Jackson to still contribute at the major league level. Even when Holliday is back, Baltimore has a plan for their early breakout star , via Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
"This week alone, Jackson hit two homers against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday, including a grand slam, and another on Wednesday," Rosenthal wrote. "The Orioles, dealing with injuries in both their infield and outfield, expect to have a place for him even after Jackson Holliday returns from hamate surgery. Jackson, 26, made 31 starts in right field last season."
While Holliday was recently pulled from his rehab assignment , it was only expected to be for a few days. Overall, the second baseman has been making steady progress from his hamate bone surgery. It may take a little longer now, but Holliday is expected to be back sooner rather than later barring another setback.
The Orioles can't ignore what Jackson has done in 2026 though. Through 16 games, he has hit .340 with four home runs and 14 RBIs. He is just one home run and eight RBIs away from surpassing his overall counting stats from the 2025 season. It is still very early and Jackson will need to show he can be consistent, but Baltimore will continue to ride the hot hand.
Working in his favor is his versatility. When Holliday returns, he is poised to handle second base. While that has been Jackson's primary position in 2026, he also has ample experience playing in the outfield.
At 9-9, the Orioles are trying to find as much of a spark as they can in their lineup. Right now, Jackson is doing the heavy lifting and has earned a longer leash in Baltimore.
