The Baltimore Orioles won an absolutely wild game on Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks . Not only did Pete Alonso hit a home run to a character named Mr. Splash in the stands, but Jeremiah Jackson belted a foul ball right into the face of his manager, Craig Albernaz.
It all worked out, as Jackson hit a grand slam later that earned him a hug from his red-faced manager. A picture of the hug was released by MLB.com reporter Jake Rill.
Jackson was grateful to get the support from his skipper.
"That was awesome," Jackson said of the hug, per the Associated Press. "You never want to hurt anybody, and Alby's awesome. It sucked. But he wore it well and he's in good spirits, so it made me feel better."
Albernaz had a right to be happy for his player. The Orioles overcame a six-run deficit to defeat the Diamondbacks Monday, 9-7.
It was the first grand slam of the season for Baltimore. Orioles fans leapt from their seats as soon as Jackson connected on the pitch.
"Most recent O's grand slam was hit by Gary Sánchez on June 15, 2025, vs. Angels at Camden Yards," MLB.com reported.
Albernaz had to step away from the dugout to receive medical treatment, following the foul ball incident. While he briefly returned to hug Jackson, he left the game again soon after to receive additional treatment.
"He's doing good. Just as a precaution, he's going to get it scanned," Orioles bench coach Donnie Ecker said. Ecker filled in for Albernaz at the postgame presser.
Following the win, the Orioles improved to 9-7 on the season. Baltimore faces off again against Arizona on Tuesday. Orioles fans hope that Albernaz is back in the dugout, where he belongs.
