Orioles rumors: Baltimore urged to move outfield trade candidate appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The Aug. 3 MLB trade deadline sits a little more than a month away, forcing the Baltimore Orioles to weigh tough decisions as Taylor Ward emerges as one of the club's most obvious trade candidates.
The Orioles have Thursday off and sit at 40-48 after a rough three-game home series against the Chicago White Sox at Camden Yards. Baltimore lost the first two games Monday and Tuesday, 8-2 and 9-3, before salvaging Wednesday's finale with a 6-1 win. With the postseason picture becoming harder to reach, the Orioles may need to consider selling expiring pieces rather than waiting for a July turnaround.
In a breakdown published by ESPN's David Schoenfield on the network's official website, Ward was identified as Baltimore's most logical player to move before he reaches free agency this winter.
"Are the Orioles a playoff team? It doesn't seem so. Ward is heading to free agency, so he's the guy to trade, another rare position player who can help a lineup. But he's having a weird season. After hitting 36 home runs with a .317 OBP for the Angels in 2025, he has only five home runs in 2026 but a .378 OBP. That makes him fit as a potential leadoff hitter or, even better, a middle-of-the-order bat if he can combine the high walk rate with his 2025 power."
Schoenfield's evaluation explains why the left-fielder remains an intriguing option despite the drop in home run production. His .378 on-base percentage still gives contenders a path to value him as a table-setter, while his 2025 power suggests there could be more impact if the slug returns.
For Baltimore, the decision hinges on timing and value. Ward's pending free agency limits the club's long-term control, but his offensive profile could still appeal to teams seeking outfield help before the deadline.
If the Orioles remain outside the playoff race through July, moving the outfielder for future assets may become their most practical deadline path. The next few weeks should determine whether Baltimore waits for a rebound or turns the 32-year-old slugger into a trade chip.
