BOSTON — The Bruins have some decisions to make about pending free agents including Andrew Peeke .
The defenseman is set to become a free agent on July 1 , but will give himself a little bit of time before he starts thinking about what comes next.
“The season ending is so fresh,” Peeke said Sunday. “There’s decisions to make on both sides.”
When asked if there’s been any sort of preliminary contract discussions, Peeke elected to keep those conversations private.
The Bruins acquired Peeke from the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2024 in exchange for Jakub Zboril and a 2027 third-round pick. While the 28-year-old hasn’t called Boston home for long, he’s enjoyed his time wearing the Bruins jersey.
“I love being a Bruin. It’s an unbelievable place to play,” Peeke said, before later adding, “It’s awesome. You’re coming to an Original 6 team, such a storied franchise, sports town, all of the above. I love every sport. ... So for me to be able to represent a city like this is pretty awesome.”
The Bruins don’t have a plethora of right-shot defensemen, which is a void Peeke fills.
Peeke, despite being a healthy scratch during the season , played in 77 games for the Bruins. He was relied on early due to the slew of injuries to defensemen to play heavier minutes, and was a steady presence on the blue line since coming to Boston.
But he struggled throughout the playoffs and it’s unclear if Boston will take a chance and re-sign him or take the gamble to see if it can replace him in the offseason.
