The Philadelphia Phillies have reportedly signed veteran outfielder Tommy Pham to a contract, according to Jorge Castillo of ESPN. It is a minor league deal for Pham. The contract includes a July 25th opt out as well.
Pham spent 2025 with the Pittsburgh Pirates . He landed a deal with the New York Mets early this season and ultimately appeared in nine big league games with the ball club. However, Pham ultimately elected free agency after being designated for assignment. Pham later landed a contract with the Baltimore Orioles , but he did not appear in any big league games with the team and was later released.
Now, Pham is set to receive another opportunity with the Phillies. It remains to be seen if Pham will end up earning a big league promotion at some point before his July 25th opt out.
The Phillies' offense has struggled aside from players such as Kyle Schwarber , Bryce Harper and Brandon Marsh . Philadelphia could use another outfielder, so Pham may receive an MLB opportunity at some point. With that being said, nothing is guaranteed.
Pham, 38, is a veteran with a proven track record. He has had some big seasons at the MLB level. At the very least, he will give the Phillies more outfield depth.
As for the Phillies, they are currently playing Pham's former team, the Mets. Philadelphia is 46-36 overall. After trailing the Atlanta Braves by a significant margin early in the season, the Phillies are now only four games back of first place in the National League East standings.
