The Baltimore Ravens are signing former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Skylar Thompson , according to a report by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Thompson, 28, spent the entire 2025 season with the Steelers, but did not appear in a game, spending most of the year on the injured reserve list.
The Steelers signed Thompson last January after he spent the first three seasons of his career with the Miami Dolphins . Slotted behind Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph , he entered training camp in a competition with rookie sixth-round pick Will Howard to be the team's No. 3 quarterback.
Howard suffered a pinky injury during training camp, which knocked him out of the preseason, and Thompson played well, given the increased opportunity, easily claiming the final quarterback slot on the Steelers' initial 53-man roster for 2025, while Howard started the year on the injured reserve list.
Thompson the preseason as the NFL's best passer . Over three games, he completed 41 of 56 passes (73.2%) for 498 yards (8.89 yards per attempt), four touchdowns, one interception, and a league-best 116.5 passer rating.
In the week of practice leading up to the season opener against the New York Jets , Thompson suffered a hamstring injury in practice that landed him on the injured list alongside Howard.
While Howard returned, Thompson spent the rest of the season on IR, awaiting an activation that never came, even when Rodgers missed time with an injury late in the season.
The most notable moment in Thompson's 2025 regular season came not on the field, but when he was the apparent victim of an alleged early-morning mugging outside of a bar in Dublin during the team's trip to Ireland.
In Baltimore, Thompson becomes the fifth quarterback on the 90-man offseason roster, joining starter Lamar Jackson , backup Tyler Huntley and undrafted rookies Joe Fagnano from UConn and Diego Pavia from Vanderbilt.
Thompson made the Miami Dolphins' active roster as a seventh-round rookie in 2022 — also on the back of a strong preseason performance. When Tua Tagovailoa and Teddy Bridgewater were injured, he ended up playing seven games and making two stars.
Again in 2024, he played in three games as a backup to Tagovailoa, but managed just a 78.7 passer rating. He was waived by the Dolphins late in 2024 season.
