Interim Boston Red Sox manager Chad Tracy had one of his first welcome to the big leagues moments on Wednesday afternoon against the Toronto Blue Jays , as Brayan Bello wasn’t too happy about the manager coming to the mound to take him out of the game. It was a moment of frustration for the Red Sox pitcher, but it drew mixed reactions from the fans.
Tracy attempted to pour some cold water on the situation after the game, according to NESN via X, formerly Twitter.
“Most pitchers I know don’t like to come out in the fourth inning,” Tracy explained. “He doesn’t want to come out of the game, and I expect that from a pitcher.”
While the interim manager didn’t want to throw his pitcher under the bus, some other members of the organization had a bit more to say about the incident. Outspoken pitching coach Andrew Bailey recognized that it wasn’t the greatest look for his guy, but also understood that it was a moment of frustration , according to Christopher Smith via X.
“I’ve gotta talk to Trace on that, but I think he (Bello) understands that it’s the heat of moment and we’ve gotta operate with some grace,” Bailey said. “I mean, these guys are human beings. And they want to win, and they want to compete. And I don’t think there’s any malice behind his frustrations.”
The frustration from Brayan Bello might be as much at himself as it was at his manager for taking him out of the game. The 26-year-old has a 1-4 record with a 9.12 ERA this season.
