Triston Casas ’ status as the 2026 Red Sox first baseman is unclear after chief baseball officer Craig Breslow didn’t commit to him last month .
But Alex Cora still has faith in him.
“He’s still talented,” t he Red Sox manager said on MLB Network . “He’s still a good hitter. We just gotta get him healthy.”
Casas suffered a season-ending knee injury in May. He underwent surgery to repair a left patellar tendon rupture.
“He’s been in Fort Myers the whole time after the season,” Cora said . “That’s great for a young guy to know what he needs to do to compete. He’s done that. Hopefully we can get him heathy.”
As for a timetable, Cora didn’t give one.
“There’s no timetable right now,” he said . “We just gotta get him right, and hopefully he can contribute next year.”
The 25-year-old struggled in 29 games, going 18-for-99 (.182) before he got hurt. In 2024, Casas dealt with fractured cartilage in his rib that limited him to just 63 games.
The Red Sox have also been connected to first baseman Pete Alonso throughout the offseason , who they possibly could meet with Tuesday in Orlando at the Winter Meetings.
