Boston acquired the 25-year-old from the Washington Nationals for pitching prospect Luis Perales on Dec. 15. He has a six-pitch arsenal that includes a four-seam fastball, two-seam fastball, changeup, cutter, sweeper and curveball.
Bennett missed the 2024 season after he underwent Tommy John surgery. In 2025, the left-hander rebounded nicely with a 2.27 ERA in 18 starting between Low-A, High-A and Double-A.
The Red Sox had 14 starting pitchers on their roster during spring training. Due to the depth, Bennett was optioned to Worcester.
After Saturday’s start, Bennett is 1-1 with a 0.00 ERA and 0.63 WHIP with nine strikeouts.
