Red Sox rumors: Will Boston buy before trade deadline after embarrassing Yankees? appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
After the Boston Red Sox swept the New York Yankees in the previous series, the team could be feeling that a turnaround is coming, and with the trade deadline approaching, the ball club could be buyers, rather than sellers. As the Red Sox look for targets ahead of the trade deadline , this MLB insider gives insight into what the plans will be like for the team.
Ken Rosenthal argues in The Athletic that an impressive series and a sweep of the Yankees isn't enough to "erase" what has been an immensely underwhelming season. However, he would also note the team's CEO, Sam Kennedy, saying that if the team doesn't improve soon, then they would be sellers.
A vital upcoming slate for the Red Sox to dictate trade deadline plans
Though with the series, the season could be turned around in Boston's eyes, as Rosenthal sees a world where, with improvement, the team becomes "outright buyers." Though he still mentions the present rumors of the team trading pitchers like Sonny Gray and Aroldis Chapman .
"One week doesn't erase three putrid months. I'm not saying this is a playoff team, or even a team that should buy at the deadline. Only 19 days ago, Sox CEO Sam Kennedy made his weekly radio appearance on WEEI in Boston and called the team's season 'embarrassing.' Kennedy also warned that if the situation did not improve soon, the team could end up sellers," Rosenthal wrote.
"Maybe that still happens, and the Sox end up moving Gray, closer Aroldis Chapman , and others, living to fight another day," Rosenthal continued. "Maybe they buy and sell, perhaps moving Gray if they are confident of ace lefty Garrett Crochet 's return. Or maybe, if they continue to play well and get healthier, they become outright buyers, with Breslow supplementing his bullpen and finally acquiring the right-handed hitter he failed to land last offseason."
At any rate, it remains to be seen which direction the Red Sox go, as the team has a 37-46 record, which puts them last in the AL East ahead of Tuesday's game against the Washington Nationals .
