Red Sox 19-year-old prospect Justin Gonzales went 3 for 5 with a grand slam, five RBIs and two runs out of the leadoff spot to lead High-A Greenville to a 10-7 10-inning win over Asheville on Sunday.
Gonzales’ RBI single in the fifth inning put the Drive ahead 3-0. His grand slam with two outs in the eighth inning tied it 7-7.
Baseball America ranks Gonzales No. 7 on its Top 30 Red Sox prospect list while MLB Pipeline puts him at No. 6 in the system.
The corner outfielder/first baseman already stands at 6-foot-6, 260 pounds.
“Obviously he’s a physical specimen,” Marcelo Mayer said earlier this month. “He’s huge.”
Gonzales is batting .276 with a .337 on-base percentage, .447 slugging percentage and .784 OPS in 17 games (83 plate appearances) for Greenville. He has three home runs, four doubles and 17 RBIs.
Other Red Sox minor league notes:
~ Stanley Tucker, a 2023 19th-round pick, put Greenville ahead with a two-run home run in the 10th inning. It was his second game with the Drive after beginning the season at Low-A Salem.
~ Marcus Phillips, the 33rd overall pick in the 2025 draft, pitched 3 ⅓ scoreless and hitless innings for Greenville. But the 21-year-old righty didn’t have the best command with four walks and one hit batsman to go along with his five strikeouts. He threw only 49.2% strikes (65 pitches, 32 strikes).
~ Hayden Mullins , a 25-year-old lefty who Boston selected in the 12th round in 2022, pitched 5 hitless innings in Double-A Portland’s 3-2 win over Hartford on Sunday. Despite the zero hits, he allowed two unearned runs and five walks while striking out five. Mullins has allowed six earned runs in 16 ⅔ innings (3.24 ERA) across four starts for the Sea Dogs.
~ Nate Eaton went 3 for 3 with a three-run home run, double and walk in Triple-A Worcester’s 6-2 victory over Syracuse on Sunday. The 29-year-old is batting .293 with a .377 on-base percentage, .467 slugging percentage, .844 OPS, three home runs, five doubles, one triple, 12 RBIs and 16 runs in 26 games for the WooSox.
~ Braiden Ward went 2 for 4 with two runs in Worcester’s win. The Red Sox acquired the speedy 27-year-old outfielder from the Rockies for left-handed reliever Brennan Bernardino on Nov. 18.
~ On Saturday, Red Sox prospect Anthony Eyanson led all High-A pitchers with 19 swings and misses in a win over Asheville. He allowed just one hit and struck out nine in 4 ⅓ scoreless innings. The 21-year-old righty has allowed just one run in 16 ⅔ innings (0.54 ERA). He has given up six hits and no walks while striking out 27. Boston selected Eyanson in the third round (87th overall) in July 2025.
