Red Sox two-way prospect Conrad Cason belted his first two career home runs Saturday on Opening Day in the Florida Complex League.
The 19-year-old right-handed hitter went 2 for 4 as the designated hitter in the FCL Red Sox ’ 8-6 loss to the FCL Twins.
Boston selected Cason as a pitcher/shortstop in the eighth round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of Greater Atlanta Christian in Norcross, Georgia.
He appeared in just two professional games last year — one as a pitcher and one as a DH — before undergoing Tommy John surgery in August 2025.
He’s still rehabbing his arm. The Red Sox need him fully recovered before deciding his long-term path as either a two-way player, position player or pitcher.
Before surgery, his fastball reached the upper-90s . MLB Pipeline graded it 60 (above average) on its 20-80 grading scale and wrote that Cason “displayed the aptitude to carry it up in zone or sink it down at the knees. He showed better feel for killing spin on a split-grip changeup in the low 80s than producing it on a tight slider with similar velocity. His athleticism helps him get down the mound well, though he’ll rush his delivery at times and lose some control.”
