The Seattle Seahawks have waived cornerback Shaquill Griffin and running back Cam Akers .
Mike Dugar posted a photo of the NFL's transaction log on X at 1:55 p.m. PST.
Both were on the practice squad and are vested veterans, meaning they will immediately hit free agency.
Griffin was in his second stint with the organization this year. He was drafted by Seattle and spent his rookie contract here, making a Pro Bowl in 2019 before signing a free agent deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars . He returned to shore up cornerback depth early in the season as Devon Witherspoon , Tariq Woolen and Nick Emmanwori worked through injuries, and featured against his former team in Week 6, collecting 7 solo tackles. He was inactive the last several weeks as the starting defense returned to health.
Akers joined the Seahawks' practice squad two weeks ago after being released by the Minnesota Vikings . The team needed running back depth after George Holani went down with a hamstring injury in Week 12. He wasn't activated for either of the two contests he spent with the organization, but he did see five carries for 19 yards with the Vikings in Week 3. The Seahawks seemed to prefer activating Velus Jones Jr., who received four carries for 32 yards in garbage time on Sunday. This also comes the day after the team changed running backs coaches .
