Pittsburgh Steelers left tackle Broderick Jones ' 2025 season ended prematurely after a significant neck injury landed him on injured reserve, and GM Omar Khan realizes how that could impact contract negotiations moving forward.
Speaking with reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine , Khan discussed potentially picking up Jones' fifth-year option and confirmed his neck injury would play a role in that decision.
"We're monitoring the medical part of it," Khan said about Jones' significant neck injury. "That has something to do with [the decision to pick up the fifth-year option or not]."
Initially diagnosed as a stinger, the neck injury Jones suffered in Week 12 against the Chicago Bears proved to be more serious, as the Steelers 2023 first-rounder was shut down for the remainder of the 2025 season.
Luckily for Pittsburgh, backup offensive tackle Dylan Cook stepped up in a huge way last season and could be looking at a starting opportunity if Jones' injury forces him to miss any time at the start of 2026.
