The Pittsbrugh Steelers hosted Penn State tight end Khalil Dinkins for a pre-draft visit last week, according to Mike DeFabo of The Athletic . Dinkins ia a North Allegheny grad, so he doesn't count against the 30 total pre-draft visits that are allotted for each team.
The Steelers released Jonnu Smith and Connor Heyward signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency, so a depth tight end is needed.
Dinkins, who stands at 6-foot-4, 251 pounds, ran a 4.71 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. He also posted a 1.7 10-yard split, 32.5 vertical jump, 9′ 11″ broad jump, and 25 reps on the bench press, which was 225 pounds.
In his four-year career at Penn State, Dunkins caught 37 passes for 399 yards (10.8 average) and seven touchdowns. Last season, he recorded 14 receptions for 167 yards (11.9 average) and two touchdowns.
Dinkins is currently projected as a late-round or undrafted prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft.
"The production doesn't really speak to Dinkins' explosive athleticism and potential if properly developed," Lance Zierlein of NFL.com wrote in his scouting report on Dinkins. "He comes from NFL bloodlines and moves around the field with the fluidity of a big wide receiver. He ran a basic route tree and currently lacks the polish needed to maximize those routes. He's quick with good build-up speed to attack across vertical patches of the field. Dinkins is a plus move blocker and willing in-line blocker, but he needs to get stronger to sustain at the point. He projects as a Day 3 pick with upside."
Dunkins is the third reported pre-draft visit by the Steelers. They've also hosted Washington cornerback Ephesians Prysoc and Miami offensive tackle Markel Bell .
