The Pittsburgh Steelers met with a familiar face on Thursday, having Pitt linebacker Kyle Louis in for a pre-draft visit at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.
Louis will not count against the Steelers' maximum of 30 visitors as a local college player. He said at the NFL Scouting Combine that he hadn't formally met with the Steelers yet, likely because Mike McCarthy's team focused their research on receivers and quarterbacks there.
Louis, a second-team All-ACC honoree last season, is a standout athlete who was tasked with an unusual role within the Panthers' defense. He totaled 81 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and two interceptions during that campaign.
"I got a good opportunity to play a position called 'Star,'" Louis said at the combine. "Star is not a position for everybody. It's not a position for pure linebackers or pure DBs. You really just got to be a mix of both of it. So I feel like the position was perfectly tailored for me. And just learning the system more and more, and experience our (scheme), stay in that pit the whole time, and trusting the system, it helped me grow as a player exponentially."
Louis was named a second-team Associated Press All-American in 2024 after piling up 101 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks and four interceptions.
