The Cincinnati Reds were one of the biggest surprises to begin the 2026 MLB season. However, the ball club has suddenly dropped six consecutive games. They were most recently defeated by the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday 7-6. The Reds' struggles are obvious at the moment. Manager Terry Francona got brutally honest on the situation while speaking to reporters after Wednesday's game, via Charlie Clifford.
"It's not fun," Francona said. "I know you can sit back and look at the big picture, I know at some point, a month from now, we will look back and go, 'That was a sh***y week' and then we're okay. But when you're going through it, it's hard."
Francona is a veteran manager. He certainly understands that a long 162 game season brings no shortage of ups and downs. The good news is that Francona understands how to navigate the adversity. He is going to continue to place his players in positions to find success.
The Reds' losing streak has come during a road trip against opponents in their division. Cincinnati was swept during this past weekend by the Pittsburgh Pirates . They began a four-game series on Monday against the Cubs in Chicago.
The Reds are hoping to avoid a sweep and a seventh consecutive defeat on Thursday against the Cubs. Regardless of what happens, the ball club will get to return home after Thursday's contest for a six-game homestand.
For now, the focus is on Thursday afternoon's game in Chicago. First pitch is scheduled for 2:20 PM EST.
