The Baltimore Orioles have been waiting patiently for Pete Alonso to get his bat going this season. Alonso certainly did that on Monday night, blasting a home run in the team's 9-7 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks . The Orioles slugger lost it in celebration , as a fan named Mr. Splash who was wearing a polar bear head caught the home run ball.
Alonso spoke out after the game about what it felt like in that moment. His home run helped cap a major comeback for the Orioles on Monday. Baltimore was trailing by six runs heading into the bottom of the sixth.
"To be able to come back from down that many runs, there's no quit in this group. And for us to rally around each other, rally around skip and really come through right there, that' s big time. That's big time. It shows a lot of character," Alonso said, per MLB.com.
The comeback was almost historic .
"The Orioles' 6-run comeback tonight tied largest come-from-behind win going back to 2010," the outlet reported. "They've had 7 comeback wins of 6 runs in that span. (Most recently had been 22-8 win over Rays on 6/27/25)."
Alonso is seen as the centerpiece of the Baltimore offense, after he signed a free-agent deal with the team over the offseason. This year so far, Alonso has two homers and is hitting at a .213 batting average.
Orioles won an action-packed game against Diamondbacks
It was a wild game on Monday. Orioles manager Craig Albernaz was hit in the face at one point by a foul ball. Albernaz stepped away to receive medical treatment.
"Albernaz returned later with a visible red mark on his right cheek, but his stay was brief, only giving (Jeremiah) Jackson a hug following his sixth-inning grand slam. Albernaz was not seen in the dugout again, and the 43-year-old did not attend his postgame press conference, as he was getting precautionary scans, bench coach Donnie Ecker said," MLB.com reported.
Baltimore faces off again against Arizona on Tuesday. The Orioles are now 9-7 on the campaign.
