The New York Giants waived linebacker Cam Jones and defensive lineman C.J. Ravenell on Saturday, clearing two roster spots just days before the start of training camp.
Jones, a 26-year-old special teams player, signed with the Giants in March after spending time with the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets . An undrafted free agent out of Indiana and a college teammate of Giants linebacker Micah McFadden , he missed the final practice of mandatory minicamp in June after sustaining a non-football injury while moving into a new residence. He was expected to be ready for camp.
Ravenell, a 6-foot-5, 300-pound defensive tackle, was claimed off waivers from the Tennessee Titans in early July. He appeared in 14 games with one start for the Titans last season under now-Giants defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson, recording six tackles and a forced fumble. The former undrafted free agent from Missouri Western State had spent 2024 on the Baltimore Ravens ' practice squad.
Training camp practices are scheduled to begin Wednesday at The Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia. The moves create flexibility as the Giants finalize their initial 90-man roster ahead of the preseason.
