Florida State football (1-9, 1-7) is on to the next quarterback.
With Mandarin High School senior Tramell Jones decommitting from FSU on Thursday , FSU will likely focus on another four-star quarterback, Carter Smith.

Smith is the second-ranked quarterback in the USA TODAY Florida Top 100 and No. 32 overall. The Fort Meyers native decommitted from Michigan last month , leaving FSU to close in on the four-star QB to make up for the loss of Jones.
Smith attends Bishop Verot High School, where he has been a four-year starter. Last year, he was named the 2023-24 Gatorade Florida Football Player of the Year after throwing for 2,223 passing yards and 29 touchdowns.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound senior also added 715 rushing yards and 19 rushing touchdowns. He owns many Lee County records, including 113 total career touchdowns.
Smith has 21 offers, including the three top Florida heavyweights: Miami, FSU, and UF . FSU was Smith's third offer, which he received on Dec. 7, 2022.
He plans to make his official visit on Nov. 30, when the Seminoles face the Gators in their season finale.

Other schools Smith was considering before he chose Michigan were Florida, Cincinnati, Miami, and Penn State.
This season, Smith has thrown for 1,299 passing yards, 12 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also has 480 rushing yards and 12 rushing scores. Bishop Verot is 7-3.
FSU has 12 verbal commits in the class of 2025.
