PHOENIX — The first weeks in the majors for a player rarely define a career, but they can hint at what’s coming. For Arizona Diamondbacks rookie Jose Fernandez, that hint is getting harder to ignore.

Fernandez has been special early on.

Jose Fernandez and Adrian Del Castillo hit RBI singles in the eighth inning as the Arizona Diamondbacks rallied to beat Philadelphia 4-3 on Sunday and send the Phillies to their fourth loss in five games. James McCann doubled and had two hits, and Taylor Clarke (1-0) pitched a scoreless seventh for the win as Arizona won for the fourth time in five games and took two of three from the Phillies.

Rookie José Fernandez's bunt single in the second inning led to two unearned runs and the Arizona Diamondbacks held on to defeat the Atlanta Braves 2-1 on Saturday night. With runners at first and second, Fernandez dropped a bunt to the third-base side of the mound. Braves pitcher Bryce Elder picked it up and threw wildly to first, allowing Gabriel Moreno and Nolan Arenado to score.

This is more than double the next highest games-played disparity in MLB history.
