The Panthers' defensive depth will once again be tested as Niko Mikkola and Uvis Balinskis are now sidelined for the season.

A tough road trip ends with another key player sidelined. Mikkola's lower-body injury adds to Panthers' mounting concerns.

On top of Finnish hockey legend Teemu Selanne criticizing a high-sticking penalty on Niko Mikkola, and former Canadian Olympian Chris Pronger replying to him, two Finnish players in the semifinal loss were also blunt after the game.

Florida Panthers defenseman Niko Mikkola sustained an injury after blocking a shot in Finland’s 4-1 win over Sweden, which forced the 29-year-old to hobble to the dressing room, and his injury status is unknown.

Florida Panthers defenseman Niko Mikkola is expected to play on Thursday against the Winnipeg Jets despite leaving Monday’s game early and missing this morning’s practice.
