J.j. McCarthy is a Minnesota Viking coming into the season.
You surprised by that?
No.
I, I'm not surprised by that at all.
Honestly, I was more surprised by all of the reports saying that J.J. McCarthy was going to get cut and wasn't going to make the 53-man roster.
It's not because I think that J.J. McCarthy is some, you know, revolutionary at the quarterback position, but J.J. McCarthy was a top 10 pick.
J.J. McCarthy is going into year three in the NFL.
I don't think that J.J. McCarthy will ever live up to the expectations of being the 10th overall pick in the NFL draft.
I don't think that J.J. McCarthy has a future of being a, a superstar or even a franchise quarterback.
But what's the point of cutting him when you already invested a top 10 pick into him?
There's no point.
You know, it's not like J.J. McCarthy makes an obscene amount of money.
It's not like J.J. McCarthy, keeping him is going to completely derail your season.
So I, I, I just don't really see the point i- in cutting him and losing him for nothing.
I think best case scenario is you hold onto J.J. McCarthy, and maybe, just maybe, he could be, like, a high-end backup kind of guy, or maybe J.J. McCarthy can prove enough to where you can get, like, a third or fourth or fifth round pick for him.
That sounds pretty bleak, I know, but I, I just don't see the point in cutting him and moving on from him and getting nothing out of him when you invested so much into him not that long ago.
Yeah.
Well, also follow the math.
Right now, J.J. McCarthy's cap number this season for the Minnesota Vikings is $5.9 million.
If they were to cut him- It's nothing the de- the dead cap if they were to cut him is $12.9 million.
It literally will cost them $7 million more against the cap today to cut him.
They're not gonna cut him because of that.
Mm-hmm.
The only thing they might do is trade him, and the question is, who's trading for J.J. McCarthy?
I, I can't, I can't find that answer.
Who's giving up real assets for him?
And also, y- you got Tiny Tim, he's your quarterback over there.
So I'm not sure that we can really say that they've figured out their quarterback situation long term in this.
Kyler Murray might be the answer.

We have no idea.
So I'm not willing to sit here as we sit right now and say that the Vikings have anything figured out.
In fact, they kept four quarterbacks on their roster.
So not surprised at all that he is still there.
