Colts add much-needed WR depth with Allen
Mike Florio and Chris Simms says it was time for the Colts to "activate the Bat-Signal" and reportedly add veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen, explaining how it's important for Indianapolis given Alec Pierce's injury.

With Alec Pierce still on the PUP list, he's got the ankle issue, issue, and, it was time.
It was time to activate the bat signal for Keenan Allen.
We've seen Stefon Diggs land with Washington in recent weeks.
Deebo Samuel returns to the 49ers.
Another receiver who had been around and available since March and hadn't been signed, Keenan Allen now reunites with Shane Steic and they were together from 2014 through 2020, Chris, with the Chargers.
Now Keenan Allen rides to the rescue in Indy where they, they are gonna need the experience and the help on the depth chart.
They are g- they are gonna need him.
Well, just like we talked about with the Giants, and maybe what we've talked about with the 49ers.
I would expect them to be one of these teams that's really paying attention to other teams' rosters and who could get cut, and when it comes to time to trim down, the, the football teams that way.
A little dicey at the receiver position when you look at it.
Yeah, Josh Downs, it looks like he's back and healthy, and that's great.
Right?
But yes, he was, you know, he's been hurt.
Alec Pierce is awesome, but yeah, dealing with an injury himself.
And then you looked at it after that and you go, other than Westbrook Akine, they don't got anybody that you can really trust to do anything there.
So, and I think Shane Steichen knows that slot position's so important to his offense, and having a guy that knows the offense, can read the coverages and all that way, and that's where Keenan Allen has value.
He's not a big play guy anymore.
He's a possession receiver that's smart, knows how to run routes, got good size, and he's gonna move the ball six, eight, seven yards at a time and be that guy, but they need him.
It is a little dicey at the wide receiver position in Indianapolis.
And we'll see what he can do.
You know, he's had a solid career.
Quietly significant catch totals, yardage totals, longtime member of the Chargers, was gone for a year with the Bears, came back for last year, and I was just starting to wonder, like, what's, like, what's going on?
Yeah.
What's gonna happen?
What gives here?
And when it happens, it makes sense.
'Cause Steichen knows him.
He knows Steic, and he can come in and maybe make a difference for the Indianapolis offense while they're waiting for Alec Pierce.
Man, that Pierce thing is weird.
It- They paid him all that money and, and w- what's going on?
Like, and I feel like that's one of the reasons why they're being tight-lipped about it, because they know, "Hey, we paid this guy all this money and we're not getting any return, and we don't know that we're gonna get a return anytime soon."
Yeah, it, it's, it's a weird situation.
It, it is, and it, it feels like, you know, we have a handful of these type of things every year where we go, wait, they saw the injury, they knew it was on the radar, they didn't wanna do surgery, let's kick the can down the road or whatever.
But then we're still dealing with it, like, forever here.
And yeah, I, I, I'm kinda curious too of, like, how that went down in the off-season and where his health, where his health was at.
