HOUSTON -- After trailing by 31 points midway through Saturday's game, the Rockets very nearly pulled off what would have been the greatest comeback in franchise history. But after a frantic comeback to force overtime, Houston ran out of steam in the extra period as Golden State secured a 127-121 victory ( box score ) at Toyota Center.
Houston made just 1-of-12 shots in overtime (8.3%). Dating back to the 2020-21 regular season, the Warriors — who had a commanding free-throw advantage of 50 to 24 on the night — have now won 14 straight games over the Rockets.
Led by Tari Eason , who had a career-high 27 points (57.9% FG, 60.0% on 3-pointers), 9 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 blocks off Houston's bench, the Rockets nearly pulled off the impossible. But Buddy Hield was nearly as dynamic as a reserve for Golden State (5-1), scoring 27 points while making 6-of-10 from 3-point range (60.0%).
Other standouts for the Rockets (3-3) included:
-
Jabari Smith Jr. : 21 points, 7 rebounds, 5-of-13 on 3-pointers (38.5%)
-
Amen Thompson : 18 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists; 8-of-15 shooting (53.3%)
Backcourt starters Jalen Green and Fred VanVleet struggled mightily, making just 4-of-25 shots combined (16.0%). Starting center Alperen Sengun had 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists while making 5-of-10 shots (50.0%), though he was a liability at times defensively, and head coach Ime Udoka opted not to play him in the fourth quarter or overtime.
Warriors star Stephen Curry (left ankle strain) and veteran Rockets center Steven Adams (right knee injury management) both sat out for medical reasons.
