Nepali and Indian cuisine come together in four dreams: the warmth of Nepal’s Himalayas with comforting dal bhat, gundruk, and sel roti; the vibrant Indian streets alive with chaat, pani puri, biryani, and timeless spices; the unity of a shared table where momos meet masala chai and traditions blend naturally; and a future of creative fusion, from tandoori momos to saffron sel roti, honoring both culinary heritages while imagining bold new flavors.
Mua
Mua Oakland is one of Oakland's most hip and trendy places to be when it comes to nightlife and good times. Mua serves up delicious New American cuisine, but infused with all kinds of global influences. Popular items include the delicious and juicy half pound Hamburger, the Soft-Shell Crab Po'Boy, Berkshire Pork Lettuce Wrap, among many, many more. In addition to the tasty food, Mua turns into a place to see and be seen after dinner time, with great music, potent drinks and interesting people all mixing together to make for a great night.
This is one of the oldest (if not the oldest) gay bars in California. It was a Chinese restaurant in the 1950s and 60s that would close the kitchen and open up the dining room to gay men and lesbians. Nowadays, the egg rolls and mu shu are gone in favor of a neighborhood bar with a friendly, low-key atmosphere, where people come for good conversation and to make a new friend or three. The crowd is a mix of gays and lesbians (although the men sometimes outnumber the women on weekends), comprised of both locals and some college students. Weekends feature a small dance space with hip hop, house and electronica music.
This little Irish pub has the distinction of having the oldest liquor license in the city of Oakland, since 1933. Inside you will find a large, comfortable bar with smiling bartenders ready to pour you a pint. Dozens of beers and ales are on tap. There is a pool table, video games, a fireplace and Irish pictures and paraphernalia adorning the walls, from pictures of JFK and early 20th century rugby players to advertisements for the Ulster Society picnic. The crowd is friendly and mellow. Come for a pint and catch a soccer or football game on one of the TVs.
