District - Oakland

District is a ritzy spot in the heart of Oakland's old town, popular for its exhaustive selection of fine wines and whiskeys. The sparkling glass alcohol booths, comfy lounge-style sitting booths and dim lights radiate a hip ambiance. Its diverse bill of fare features small plates, crusty pizzas and home-style grilled dishes, along with its usual wines and craft ales. Stop in for a lavish brunch spread, even as you choose between an extensive display of wines by glass and bottle.

Quinn's Lighthouse

This historical landmark was named after a struggling writer with a wicked past. The building dates back to 1890 and served as a lighthouse for many years. Today it is a festive restaurant and bar that offers great views of the estuary and the Oakland skyline as well as great service. The upper deck pub offers over 60 imported and domestic beers, outdoor seating, and a wine list honored by the Wine Spectator magazine. The menu features Fresh Clam Angel Hair Pasta, Blackened Red Snapper, and Caesar Salads. The award-winning wine list is very extensive with most bottles priced around 20 dollars.

Bar Cesar

César, the Oakland branch of the Berkeley hit, has taken Piedmont Avenue by storm. Always packed, César serves up a broad selection of tapas, ranging from the traditional Patatas Bravas to the more contemporary, like Sautéed Chicken Liver with Sherry-Shallot Glaze. The drink selection is almost as broad as the menu, featuring all types of house specialty cocktails (if you're a fan of bourbon-based cocktails and ordering off-menu, ask for a Bourbon Monk) as well as a comprehensive wine list, both Spanish and not.
