The Lesson I typically offer my students one private, one-hour lesson per week. The first half-hour is usually focused on vocal exercises and technique, while the second half is devoted to the singer's repertoire. The more experienced students are invited to sing in semi-annual recitals in Berkeley. The Method The technique I teach to all students is rooted in bel canto, which is most commonly exhibited by classical singers. Other influences include Alexander technique, Feldenkreis method, and my over fifteen years of private teaching experience. My students sing Classical, Musical Theatre, Pop, Jazz, and Non-Western literature. Age and Experience I do not have a minimum age requirement for entry into my studio. However, due to the physical sound demands, I usually suggest that young singers do not start until their voice changes (in their mid-teens). I accept students of all levels and abilities to my studio.
I teach guitar, ukulele, mandolin, and fiddle, and have more than 20 years experience teaching all ages and levels. I do not teach piano. While I adapt my teaching style to the personality and musical interests of each student, I also make sure to focus on six main categories of musicianship: -Technique -Improvisation -Music Theory -Rhythm -Repertoire -Expression Every lesson is fun, educational, and inspiring!

I have been teaching ukulele since 2016. I came to the uke from other musical activities, and I love how this small instrument can take the place of a whole band, and make a very satisfying accompaniment to the voice. I also love its approachability, for people of all levels of experience and musical development.
