Renzo offers private lessons in guitar performance (all styles), songwriting, music theory, and music production. Sessions are held in a state-of-the-art music production studio located in Oakland, CA (near Laney College in the Merritt area) or in Santa Cruz, CA (on the West Side near Santa Cruz High). Most necessary materials—such as sheet music, recordings, and jam tracks (including those featured on Renzo’s YouTube channel, Now YOU Shred)—are provided. Lessons can be tailored to the student’s preferences, whether highly structured or more relaxed. Areas of study include rock, blues, funk, jazz, folk, classical, and Latin American guitar styles, as well as Cuban tres guitar. Students can also explore music production techniques using Ableton Live. Guitars and amplifiers are available for use during all sessions. Highly individualized classes include customized lesson plans and materials. Featuring flexible scheduling for busy professionals. Classes are organized for maximum efficiency and marked improvement. Classes employ the latest technology and current musical philosophy. Studies culminate periodically with a public performance or production of real recorded music, either composed, performed or produced by the student.

I have been teaching guitar for over three decades, specializing mostly in classical guitar, but I played rock for most of my youth before beginning my formal music studies in my twenties. I taught full-time at De Anza College from 2001 to 2022, where I directed the Guitar and World Music areas of the department, and taught a very broad range of music classes, including popular styles of guitar. I now maintain a private studio in Santa Cruz. I have been fortunte to study with some of the world's best players and teachers, and strive to carry their wisdom and expertise forward. I emphasize a strong and supple technique, musicianship, and musical interpretation. I teach Children age 10 and up through adults, from beginners to advanced, and have prepared many students for University and Conservatory study. I am a kind, responsive, and encouaging teacher.
