Child care with an emerging curriculum includes Garden Gate Preschool (all the preschool standards and far more), Creative Curriculum (where we play through learning and learn through play assisting each child to build higher level thinking skills as they are ready.) Creative Arts (including the importance of self-directed art, projects celebrating seasons, holidays and more. Remember..."Creative minds are seldom tidy!" and kids in the kitchen offering sensory experiences, math and science with hands-on learning fun.) An equally important part of our program is First Love Farm (where we grow our own gardens, care for our own animals surrounded by green pastures with our three Morgan horses, a chicken aviary and coop aviary.) We are strong on building relationships with self, each other, environment and the world around us. We are huge on living with heart! We have an expansive focus on nature, (proven to be essential for children to grow intellectually and to develop creative thinking skills.) We welcome you to visit our website where you'll find that children genuinely learn from desire and have an abundance of opportunities to explore, discover and succeed!

The 2010-2011 school year celebrates our 57th year! Highlands Preschool was organized in 1953 as an independent preschool. This means that we are not affiliated with, or supported by, any church, government or other organization. In 1967, Highlands Preschool was granted official 501c3 non-profit status. This is a unique combination for a preschool - independent of any parent organization, with education as our primary focus rather than profit. This allow us to dedicate ourselves to giving preschoolers of all backgrounds a positive first learning experience to prepare them for kindergarten. Our philosophy of education centers around "play." Through play, many important behavior and social skills are learned and practiced: the development of independence and self-esteem, sharing, taking turns, accepting limits, using self-control and following directions.
We offer a high-quality Early Learning experience for children ages 2 months-5 years. Our goal is to provide a wide range of developmentally appropriate opportunities for your children to grow, learn, and thrive. Our teachers come with a rich knowledge of the childcare field, are trained in best practices, and are required to continue their education in Early Learning. Many have been on staff at Children's Village for over 10 years! We are honored to serve the Renton Highlands and Shoreline communities!
