KAR Laboratories was established in 1956 in Kalamazoo, Mich. Work emphasized industrial formulations, quality control, forensic investigations and agricultural chemicals. Clinical analysis followed and became an important area of service. Beginning in the 1970s, environmental analysis came to the forefront, starting with the analysis of livestock and dairy samples for PBB contamination. This began a shift of services that continued throughout the 1980s, positioning KAR Laboratories as a full-service environmental testing laboratory. Pharmaceutical testing services were added in the 1990s. The firm serves clients in many states and foreign countries, but primarily in southern Michigan. Service is provided to all types of industry, municipalities, consultants and commercial establishments, as well as individuals and regulatory agencies. KAR Laboratories assists clients in interpretation of data and in development of solutions to problems.
