The charming 68-seat Acrosstown Repertory Theatre offers patrons a unique and innovative cultural experience in an intimate turn of-the-century space. The ART's mainstage shows run the emotional gamut-- heartwrenching dramas, topical period pieces, toe-tapping musicals, and laugh-out-loud comedies-- the common thread being our desire to start a conversation and create theatre for thinking people. Founded in 1980, the ART develops new talent, plays, audiences and ideas while also celebrating and revivifying great plays of the past. The volunteer-run ART provides a safe place where people of all ages, genders, races, socio-economic backgrounds and beliefs can create unsafe theatre- theatre that transforms. Hippodrome State Theatre is 260-plus-seat facility that includes a rehearsal space, scene shop and art gallery. The theater includes an 80-seat cinema and has produced more than 100 world, American and Southeastern premieres. It stages productions for over 60,000 people annually.
