Situated just 16 miles north of Oklahoma city is Edmond which was born in 1889 during the infamous Oklahoma Land Run. The downtown area's biggest attraction that still stands as a proud testament to the city's glorious past is perhaps the public schoolhouse built in 1889. This multi-cultural city warmly embraces those of all faiths as can be seen through its churches, a mosque, a Bahai center and a place for Mormon worshipers. Visitors to the city are often stunned by the beauty of public works of art including stained glass, steel sculptures, murals and statues.
