Heart Wisdom is the homebirth practice of licensed midwife, Joan Green. She speicalizes in heart center, holistic midwifery care, whihc includes prenatal care the labor and birth and follow up care for o mom and baby for the first six weeks after the arrival of the little one. The name Heart Wisdom comes from the fact thatall women know deep inside them how they need to birth their child and with the right support they can have an amazing home birth. Joan has attended well over 1000 births in her 30 plus years of of practice.

I started my midwifery practice 26 years ago, and am thrilled and gratified to be offering safe and joyful birth to my mothers and fathers at Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley ever since. Beginning as an apprentice in 1976 making tea at home births, I received my Master's degree in nurse-midwifery at UCSF. As an experienced and trusted midwife in Labor and Delivery, I work well with the team of excellent back-up OB's and nurses on the unit. I am the private practice midwifery representative on the Quality Improvement Committee, and the OB Executive Committee. I provide the traditional, personal bedside support families want, in a safe, respectful environment .I welcome all women, including those desiring VBAC. Most insurance will cover either all or a good portion of my fee.
