Anaheim

Once a sleepy town with Germanic roots, Anaheim has morphed into one of California's largest cities, known for its association with the Disneyland Resort. The city is one of the most popular destinations for conventions and is home to the state-of-the-art Anaheim Convention Center as well as hosting two national-level sports teams, the Angels, a major-league baseball team and the Anaheim Ducks hockey team. A great base to explore Orange County, the city has a host of fun activities for all ages, and though most are centered around the Disneyland experience, with a bit of digging it's possible to search out other options like the Anaheim Packing District and Oak Canyon Nature Center.

Center Street Promenade

Center Street Promenade in downtown Anaheim is prominent for attracting hoards of tourists and locals year after year with the Anaheim Nutcracker Holiday Festival, but it is also a wonderful place to be on a lazy afternoon. The area features a pedestrian-only shopping district running for several blocks along West Center Street and is home to a slew of holiday festivities and events. During Christmas, expect a visit from Santa Claus, live musicians, and carolers. Stop by any time during the rest of the year to sample food from a lovely variety of local eateries lining the promenade or to pick up gifts in the many shops and boutiques in the area.
