Located on the eastern side of Santa Cruz Island the anchorage is ideal for an enjoyable day trip in the outdoors. You can explore a range of diverse trails that range from easy to strenuous ones for more experienced hikers. A few trails from the anchorage even lead up to Smugglers Cove Beach and Potato Harbor Overlook.

The Mission San Buenaventura parish church introduces visitors to the community's Spanish colonial roots. The church's exterior is whitewashed with red hues. There are guided tours held that explores the church from its garden to its Chumash history. Also on location is a church museum and a gift shop that displays Chumash artifacts along with other religious items. Renowned for its mission bells, the parish church is more than just an attraction. Regular masses are held and the congregation mostly comprises locals.
