This historic edifice stands on the original cathedral established in America's very first Catholic parish sometime between 1565 and 1575. When the Spaniards first gained a foothold in what was then Timucuan country, they hastily constructed a church to which the British subsequently burned. The second and third incarnations befell similar fates until the present one was erected in the late 18th Century. The cathedral is open to the general public throughout the week in addition to Mass on Sunday.
Castle Otttis was constructed as a landscape-sculpture in the city of St. Augustine. It resembles an Irish castle with the interiors designed by renowned historians of Northeast Florida. It elicits the atmosphere of an abbey and is often used for wedding ceremonies and functions by the locals.

This was St Augustine's original place of interment for the residents of the old colony and from its days as an early American city. The headstones are a veritable chronicle of St Augustines early history and show the transition from one national affiliation from the next in many cases. Located just outside the old city gates, this makes an interesting quiet detour on a walking tour of the colonial quarter.
