Overlooking the pristine waters which surround Egmont Key, the ruins of Fort Dade draw many a curious visitor looking to uncover its secrets. The fort, a product of the Spanish-American war, is a part of the Egmont Key State Park and National Wildlife Refuge, and is a major military fortification on the island. While not much remains of the fortress, visitors can still explore traces of its history which linger in the form of its walls and foundations.
