Built in the Art Deco style, the Union Station will take your breath away with its splendid architecture and opulent design. The building was designed by Gilbert Stanley Underwood in the year 1931, and it was aimed at expressing strength and power among other things. The grand building covers an area of 11,500 square meters (124,000 square foot) and is not only a visual feast for the eyes but also serves as a commuter haven. High ceilings, chandeliers and large windows grace the interiors, while stone etchings on the outside are a must-read for all. Owing to its spectacular design and architecture, the building has also been mentioned in a number of books like Historical Architecture of Omaha by Henry W. Wong and Omaha Railroad Stations by John Peterson.
