Times Square Building in Rochester is a landmark that reminisces a vast history attached to it. Formerly known as The Genesee Valley Trust Building, this art deco tower resembles the famous Empire State Building of New York. The foundation of the bank building was, interestingly and ironically, laid a day before the day of stock market crash of 1929 which lead to the Great Depression. Architect Ralph Thomas Walker was inspired by sea shells and incorporated a wing like structure on the top of the building. Known as "Wings of Progress", they are four aluminium wings protruding out of the roof of the tower.
The Rochester Savings Bank building is a historic structure which was established in 1927. Built with a mix of architectural styles, it is mostly evident of the Byzantine Revival and the Late 19th and 20th Century Revival styles. The building is no longer used as a bank, but plans to start a college/institute are under they way. However, the beauty and the charisma of the structure is simply superb and it remains to be an attraction.
The Hoyt Potter House has a sentimental value and history attached to its origins. This opulent Greek Revival style building belonged to Rochester's bookseller David Hoyt, who later sold it to businessman Henry Potter. The downfall of this beautiful building began in 1969, after Jack Lubelle became the owner and its inevitable end was near. The once majestic mansion was going to be pulled down given its dilapidated state. However, the Landmark Society of Western New York undertook complete resurrection of this place. Now headquarters of the society, this stately house has been revived to its original glory and houses Wenrich Memorial Library. Home to significant archives, this Greek style manor is a phoenix of Rochester.
