Hanover Square

Previously known as the Veteran's Park, the Hanover Square is a park located in downtown Syracuse. It is surrounded by a few historic buildings too, together forming the Hanover Square historic district. Most of these buildings were constructed in 1834 in Second Empire, Romanesque and Federal style architecture. The site has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1976.

Tipperary Hill Heritage Memorial

The Tipperary Hill Heritage Memorial is located at the corner of Milton Avenue and Tompkins Street in its namesake park and neighborhood. This district has an Irish lineage with immigrants settling in since the 1820s. Sculpted by Dexter Benedict in 1997, the bronze memorial features life-size figures of a young Irish family of four pointing to the famous Green over Red traffic signal. The post's red light was said to represent the British while green the Irish. After several local conflicts, the light was interchanged from green to red despite opposition from the City Hall. This memorial commemorates that very incident.

Clinton Square

Built in the 19th century, Clinton Square is steeped in history, and was originally the town center back in the day. Today, the busy area in downtown is used for major cultural events such as benefits, marathons and festivals.
