Sea Islands

Residing along the southern coast of the Atlantic Ocean, Sea Islands are a natural chain of the barrier and tidal islands. There are over 100 of these islands, spanning the coasts of Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. What was once the land of colonial Spanish missions and indigenous people for over a thousand years, today sits as a picture-perfect paradise and a marvelous Atlantic hideaway. Later on, the islands were to be transformed into plantations during the 18th Century for rice, indigo, and cotton. Nourished by St. Johns and Santee Rivers, this magnificent ensemble of dainty islands is dotted with a tapestry of waterfront resorts and establishments proffering motley recreational activities. However, there is more to this island collective than just natural beauty. Having been the site of an intensive Afro-American event of the Civil Rights Movement, Sea Islands is a soulful amalgam of nature and history.

Sword Gate House

Sword Gate House in South Carolina is believed to have been built in the early 19th Century in sections and redecorated too. The sword gates were put in the high brick wall in 1859. Each gate has two vertical spears that meet at the placed horizontal broadsword center forming a cross. Hence, the name. The house has seen several changes in the late 19th Century.
