Fremont Bridge

Crowning the northern view of the city, this double-decker-like design of the bridge was built for the 405 freeway in Portland. Completed in 1973, the tied-arch bridge measures 902 feet (275 meter). The span was pre-fabricated and floated downriver to the spot it now rests. There is no foot traffic on this commuter bridge, so take in its beauty from any nearby spot. Or, drive across and enjoy the urban panorama. Just keep in mind northbound traffic can get pretty tied up in the afternoon.

The David Campbell Memorial was erected in the honor of David Campbell, a fire chief who lost his life while on-duty fighting a fire. This memorial pays a tribute to his valor and was designed by renowned architect, Paul Cret.

James F. Bybee House

On Sauvie Island, you will find Howell Territorial Park, a post that was an integral part of river trading, settlement and farming in the Portland area. Built in 1858, the house is still there and can be toured. Inside, you will get an idea of what life was like along the mighty rivers of the Pacific Northwest. The house is open weekends from the first Saturday in June until the first Sunday in September. An agricultural museum is nearby and open during the same hours.
