Spenard Roadhouse restaurant and bar serves varied American and New American fare in a casual setting. Guests can expect some contemporary fusion cuisine, such as ribeye and truffle fries, or salmon puttanesca, and remixes of classic dishes. The bar is lively and bright, and is known for its collection of local beers on tap and flights of small batch bourbon.

Gwennies Old Alaska Restaurant

A real Alaskan experience, this restaurant has scads of memorabilia on its walls and in displays. President Carter and the first lady once ate here while passing through Anchorage. Down-to-earth, friendly Alaskans - who are happy to share what they know of Alaska - operate this restaurant. Meals are served all day, and you may expect large Alaskan portions. Have your omelet with reindeer sausage, or a grilled halibut sandwich for lunch. Dinner options include barbecued salmon, and wine and beer is available.

South Restaurant + Coffeehouse situated in the busy Old Seward Highway is a popular dining destination for people living in the neighborhood. Crush Bistro

Crush’s owners Robert de Lucia (right) and Scott Anaya (left) created Crush in order to share their love of wine, food, and conversation with Anchorage. Their vision was to give Anchorage a place where people can experiment with a variety of wines, provide a fun place to either hang out for a reasonably priced meal, or sit down to a vintage $1,000 bottle.

Snow City Cafe

Opened in 1998, it quickly became Anchorage's "Favorite New Restaurant" in its first year. Breakfast entrees such as the tofu Scramble and Eggs Benedict are available all day. Lunches include the Greek pita and the salmon cake Hero sandwich. Fresh soups and sandwiches are also made daily.
