Sconehenge was founded in 1998 by Andy and June Lee. Long time friends with the Yasuda family, June and Andy took over the cafe at Berkeley Bowl’s location. They spent two long decades perfecting their delicious and well-beloved recipes to what they are today. Along the way they have supported numerous families and become a staple within the Berkeley community. In 2023, June and Andy decided to retire and transition the business to employee owned. We still use the same great recipes to make our delicious products!

Whatever we don't make in-house, we source from other local companies. When we can't make it Homemade, we do the next best thing -- buy homegrown and support East Bay businesses. The Homemade Cafe was opened in 1979 when previous owners Norm and Janet trekked cross country to pursue their dreams of opening a local diner in sunny California. In 35 years we've grown, laughed, and cried with our neighborhood friends while carrying out our single mission - serving great food. In 2011, Norm and Janet sold the restaurant to long time employee Collin. Having grown up a Berkeley kid, Collin grew up eating at Homemade and eventually got his first job as a busboy at the cafe. After learning how the ropes by working in every position from dishwasher to kitchen manager (and a brief hiatus at NYU) Collin is active in all day to day activities and is committed to the restaurant and the neighborhood.

Formally known as Jimmy Beans, We at Lama Beans provide reasonably priced food made from local and organic sources. Everything is made in house whenever possible by our passionate team of Chefs. Beyond just serving food, our servers strive to provide a fun and casual environment for anyone to come in and hangout whether it be for a full 3-course dinner, a homemade dessert, or maybe just a cup of coffee. The Cheese Board opened as a small cheese store in 1967. In 1971, the two original owners sold their business to their employees and created a 100% worker owned business of which they remained a part. The transition to a worker-owned and operated cooperative relied upon a shared work ethic, high standards, and the strong emotional connections among the group. Decisions were made, after much debate, either on the shift or at the monthly meetings. The new owners shared a belief that the collective process would organically create a truly democratic society.
